Purpose of Job
Under general direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, manage and oversee the daily operations in the assigned
divisions of the Fire Department for Training and Special Operations. Provides direction and planning for the
operations, growth, and development of assigned divisions. Supervises assigned Fire Department staff. This
position is responsible for the management and delivery of emergency response training, special operations, and
EMS programs for members of the department, other outside agencies, and members of the community. This
position participates in the formulation, determination, and implementation of resources for the assigned areas.
Job Related Requirements
Typical Work Schedule:
40-hour work week, subject to call back 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Work is performed in office and field environments.
May be required to work on holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Essential Job Functions
? Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an Associate’s
Degree Fire Science.
? Associate’s Degree in Fire Science or another related field from an accredited university or college with
additional specialized training in fire and/or EMS operations and administration.
? Georgia State Office of EMS Advanced EMT license.
? Georgia State Office of EMS Advanced EMT Instructor Coordinator.
? National Registry of EMTs Advanced EMT certification.
? State of Georgia Class F driver’s license.
? FEMA National Incident Management ICS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800.
? Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the department in
order to direct and coordinate work within the training division.
? Ability to meet current requirements set forth for Fire Instructor 2 by National Fire Protection
Association, Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council, and Insurance Services Office.
? Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible service as a Firefighter/Advanced EMT in a fully
paid fire department with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of middle / senior level supervisory experience in a
Fire Department of equivalent size.
? Basic Life Support Instructor Certification.
? Ability to obtain other certifications required for the job of Training Division Coordinator as specified
by the department.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Certifications
? Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree
in a course of study related to occupational field.
? State of Georgia Certified Fire Chief Officer Designation
? Five years of progressively responsible experience as a Chief Officer.
? Public Information Officer
? Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Proctor/Monitor and Evaluator
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-

? Operates in accordance with the National Incident Management System and the National Response
Framework.
? Oversees human resource management and disciplinary processes for the training division.
? Coordinates with Deputy Chief, Battalion Chief’s / shift commanders and company officers to ensure all
training requirements are satisfied.
? Oversees the development and delivery of training curriculum and programs.
? Maintains training and certification records for all personnel.
? Coordinates promotional efforts of assigned personnel and makes recommendations for advancement.
? Ensures required training and recertification requirements are met for him/herself and others assigned to
the division.
? Represents the department on various boards, committees, and groups as assigned Operates in
accordance with all applicable laws, city policies, departmental SOPs, and SOGs.
? Utilizes departmental chain of command to assure continuity.
? Performs other duties as assigned.

Guidelines for the position:
? The employee must possess all requisite knowledge and skills to comply with the current editions of
Georgia Firefighters Training and Standards Act, ISO Grading Schedule, Georgia Department of Public
Health EMS, O.C.G.A Title 31, Chapter 11, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001,
Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications and NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Instructor
Professional Qualifications, and all applicable EMS Rules and Regulations and departmental Standard
Operating Procedures.
